How You See Yourself Determines Your Destination

Feb 22. 2023 By Tom Hobbs

Have you ever heard the phrase, "fake it until you make it"? This common piece of advice is often used to encourage people to act confidently, even if they don't feel confident inside. The idea is that if you act as if you're already successful, you'll eventually become successful (Here is a previous article about looking at your success). While there's some truth to this, I think it's more accurate to say that how you see yourself is how the world will see you when you arrive at the destination of your journey.

In other words, if you see yourself as a successful, confident person, others will eventually see you that way too. This doesn't mean that you should pretend to be something you're not or lie about your accomplishments. Instead, it's about creating an image of yourself that supports the life you crave and then working hard to make that image a reality.

Of course, this is easier said than done. Along the way, you'll likely feel like a fake, suffer from imposter syndrome, and want to quit. You'll wonder if you're really cut out for the path you've chosen and if you're deserving of the success you're seeking. These feelings are normal, but they can be paralyzing if you let them take over.

To overcome imposter syndrome and other feelings of self-doubt, it's important to remember why you started on this journey in the first place. What was it that drew you to this path? What do you hope to achieve? Keeping your goals and motivations in mind can help you stay focused and motivated, even when things get tough.

It's also important to surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision. Seek out mentors, friends, and colleagues who can offer support and encouragement when you need it most. And remember, even the most successful people have moments of self-doubt and insecurity. You're not alone in this.

Finally, don't forget that success is a journey, not a destination. It's important to celebrate your progress and acknowledge your accomplishments along the way, even if you haven't reached your ultimate goal yet. This can help you stay motivated and focused, even when things feel difficult or uncertain.

How you see yourself is how the world will eventually see you. By creating an image of yourself that supports the life you crave and working hard to make that image a reality, you can achieve success and fulfillment. Along the way, you may struggle with imposter syndrome and self-doubt, but by staying focused on your goals and surrounding yourself with support, you can overcome these obstacles and reach your destination. Remember, success is a journey, so enjoy the ride and celebrate your progress along the way.
